In 2000 the measles was declared eliminated from the United State (Vaccines, 2016). There was a small measle outbreak in the United States in 2015. The outbreak came from a person who came to the United States who was not vaccinated, or a person from the United States who was not vaccinated and picked it up from another country then returned to the United States. This is why doctors recommend the vaccination at birth. Some parents don’t believe in vaccinations, they believe as long as the people that they frequent are up to date on their shot record then their child will remain healthy.

When traveling the country you may be exposed to different diseases based on the countries you are visiting (Vaccines, 2016). When traveling to countries in Africa, Central, or south America you’ll need the yellow fever vaccine (Vaccines, 2016). If you decide to travel to Asia, Latin America, or Africa, you may need typhoid vaccine (Vaccines, 2016).

Before you travel you should always make sure you scheduled a visit to your doctor or a travel medicine provider, be  aware of which vaccinations you or those traveling with you may need, make sure you have altered immunocompetence due to illnesses (Vaccines, 2016). Also women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should be aware of the zika virus that is a new epidemic around the world (Vaccines, 2016). There is currently no vaccination for the zika virus.

  1. I am very glad that you wrote on this topic. It is very important to be vaccinated especially when traveling outside the country to avoid the spread of diseases. It was very interesting that you mentioned which vaccine you would need for which country you are traveling to. Good job

  3. I enjoyed reading this post! Vaccines are very controversial and I know of a couple of people that believe the CDC has a way of putting chemicals or metals in the vaccines that we are given, and use that to make a profit. Sadly, there are many more people throughout the United States and across the world that chose to subject their family and also strangers to diseases because they chose to not vaccinate. Old diseases are coming back roaring after the disease has been eradicated in the United States for some time. I think we as health educators need to reach out to more groups of people to show them the facts and benefits of vaccination. By the way, I really like your background. Great job!

  4. This post is full of great information. I really enjoyed you talking about the different vaccines you would need for the different countries. Not many people would think to get vaccines when they leave the country, but I believe that everyone should be aware of the different diseases that they could come into contact with and that may help them decide if they want a vaccine or not. Great job!

  5. This topic can be touchy to talk about because who doesn't enjoy to travel? It just sucks that we have to travel with so much precaution because we could be bringing or even taking diseases back to and from different countries.

  8. This topic is important!! because getting vaccination is very important issue and can help prevent disease such as the measles to children. I never understood why parents deny their child to get vaccinate.

  9. Keeping up to date on vaccines is extremely important for yourself and the safety of others. thankfully there are doctors who do not give into the "anti-vaxers". I agree that it is important to seek out what you need vaccination wise before traveling.

  10. Many individuals don't realize that safe travelling goes far beyond just making sure you don't get robber or taken. Many countries that are less developed than the US struggle with diseases that we have no had to deal with either ever or for years. It is important when travelling outside the country to talk to your doctor about what types of vaccines would be beneficial to you depending on where you are travelling. Great job!
