In 2000 the measles was declared eliminated from the United State (Vaccines, 2016). There was a small measle outbreak in the United States in 2015. The outbreak came from a person who came to the United States who was not vaccinated, or a person from the United States who was not vaccinated and picked it up from another country then returned to the United States. This is why doctors recommend the vaccination at birth. Some parents don’t believe in vaccinations, they believe as long as the people that they frequent are up to date on their shot record then their child will remain healthy.

When traveling the country you may be exposed to different diseases based on the countries you are visiting (Vaccines, 2016). When traveling to countries in Africa, Central, or south America you’ll need the yellow fever vaccine (Vaccines, 2016). If you decide to travel to Asia, Latin America, or Africa, you may need typhoid vaccine (Vaccines, 2016).

Before you travel you should always make sure you scheduled a visit to your doctor or a travel medicine provider, be  aware of which vaccinations you or those traveling with you may need, make sure you have altered immunocompetence due to illnesses (Vaccines, 2016). Also women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should be aware of the zika virus that is a new epidemic around the world (Vaccines, 2016). There is currently no vaccination for the zika virus.

When most people think of healthy travel, they may just think about seeing a doctor before they take off for their vacation. Healthy travel is making sure you are healthy before you travel, making sure you eat healthy, making sure you exercise and checking yourself out when you return from your vacation.
People travel for many reasons. I know I enjoy traveling with my family. Others enjoy traveling with their families, friends, for their business, to volunteer, to visit others, to get away from home, and to visit historical places. Traveling is really fun, but most of the time we forget about our health because we are too busy enjoying the new environment.
To make sure you’re healthy for your trip, make sure you do research on your destination, especially if traveling internationally. Make sure that you are aware of the climate, diseases, environment, and foods that are popular where you desire to go.
Go visit your doctor to see if you need any vaccinations. Your doctor would let you know how to stay healthy for your vacation. No one plans to become sick, or hurt during a fun time such as vacation, but it does happen.  Always pack medicine just in case you do get ill. If you're going camping, hiking, or even climbing a mountain, make sure you pack a first aid kit for future injuries.
Be very careful about what you intake while on vacation. Make sure they have clean water. If traveling to somewhere where it's humid and they have a lot of insects use bug repellent. It is your vacation and you want to enjoy yourself, but do not do any risky behavior.
Most importantly when you return from your travel make sure your health is still in good shape.

Introduction

Healthy Travel: 2700 Spring 16'

I'm Ranice Green a junior here at Eastern Illinois University. I chose healthy travel as a topic because I love to travel, and my mother and I plan to go to Africa for her 55th birthday next summer. I have never been out of the country, but I've heard that there are a lot of vaccinations that you must complete before traveling to certain places. I've also heard a few things about diseases and other things that you can pick up from traveling that I am very concerned about. I hope everyone enjoys my blog, and good luck with your blogs as well!
